News Letter Autumn 2011
October 6th“Red Letter
Day?”
The SRA has described the 6th October 2011 as a "red letter" day for the legal sector. It brings forward alternative business
structures (ABS), and it is the date on which the SRA introduces
"outcomes focused regulation" (OFR).
Whilst there is a
great deal of detail to be considered within the new rules, many of the changes mean that firms need to
have effective and monitored “risk”
strategies that ensure they comply with the new rules.
Risk Management
is a key issue for all professional service firms, especially law firms. It is a concept which makes good business
sense, equally if implemented fully it can save money, not least in the
renewal of PI premiums.
It is important
that as well as having a clear strategy and policy, firms must demonstrate
that risks have been identified, documented, allocated a risk owner and
reported on an ongoing basis. Full article Click

Pro Active Reporting! Turning reports into actions.
KYC, Lexcel, internal quality
checklists,
Money Laundering, updating fees
estimates, the sheer volume of regulatory, and compliance requirements, as
well as internal policies and procedures can leave even the most
conscientious Fee Earner struggling to keep every file in good order.
Distributing informative reports or
even email alerts, to assist fee earners and managers to help them with
these tasks is one thing. Making it easy for them to respond quickly and
address the issues is another.
Norwel’s Interactive Matter Administration (IMA) is designed to make the process of dealing with matter
administration issues as easy as possible by providing a “Do It Now”
approach. IMA provides fee earners and managers with interactive reports on
key issues, such as compliance, billing, credit control, transfers, fees
estimates etc.
Users interact with the report by
using a right mouse click which presents them with a choice of actions, for
example, if a fees estimate is about to be exceeded, an option to contact the
client, (with automated email, or letter production tools) and communicate
why this has changed is provided. Click
